What Can Injectable Fillers Do for Me?
Our busy lives don’t leave much time to think about our diets, getting enough exercise, changing bad habits or avoiding overexposure to the sun. But these are precisely the factors that cause us to age prematurely.
Most people first notice facial aging as their face becomes less full and wrinkles develop. Injectable fillers, also called soft tissue augmentation, can restore facial fullness and reduce the appearance of wrinkles non-surgically, making injectable fillers a popular and comparatively inexpensive and painless procedure when compared to the more invasive facelift.
Injectable fillers can:
· Plump thin lips
· Improve superficial contours
· Soften facial lines and wrinkles
· Improve the appearance of deeper scars
Injectable fillers cannot stop the aging process, but if areas of your face seem to be aging you before your time, this procedure may be the right answer for you. When combined with a browlift, eyelift or facelift, the results are remarkable.
Be sure to tell the doctor about any medical conditions, medications, or past treatments with other facial rejuvenation procedures. Your surgeon will also want to make sure you are:
· Physically healthy
· A non-smoker and non-drug user
· Realistic and positive about outlook and surgical expectations
There are four main types of injectable fillers. Each offers different uses and results:
· Collagen: a natural skin-supporting protein. CosmoDerm, Cosmoplast, Zyderm and Zyplast are common collagen products. Results may last 2 to 4 months.
· Hyaluronic Acid: a natural body substance for plumping thin lips, and filling facial creases, surface wrinkles and deep scars. Results last 6 months or more.
· Hydroxylapatite: found naturally in human bones, hydroxylapatite is recommended for filling deeper creases (nasolabial folds, marionette lines and frown lines), and enhancing cheek and other facial contour fullness.
Human fat: Harvested from your body using liposuction, human fat can be reinjected, improving facial fullness, filling deep creases and building up surface contours. Results can last a year or more.
Complications from fillers are rare, but as with all surgery, there are some risks depending on the type of filler, including:
· Injection site infection
· “Clumping” due to facial movement and the natural aging process.
· Skin eruptions that mimic acne
· Development of antibodies to future injections
· Asymmetry (Unevenness)
· Bleeding, bruising or swelling
· Migration of filler material (may cause temporary paralysis)
· Skin rash, sensitivity, redness, itching, swelling
Although injectable fillers offer a quick and noticeable improvement in facial fullness and a restored youthful appearance, always choose a cosmetic surgeon with specialized training and a complete understanding of soft tissue augmentation to ensure your treatment will be safe and effective and provide your desired results.

Cam Cole: The area in front of Philadelphia Flyers goalie Michael Leighton — where King Kong will meet Godzilla starting tomorrow night in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup final — needs a catchy name. Goal crease seems so ... ordinary. We're thinking the Chicago Chop House. They can call it something else when the series moves to Philadelphia
